In 1979, the school offered career development guidance services under the Office of Public Affairs, and in August 1982, the Career Guidance Team was officially established under the Department of Disciplinary Affairs (predecessor of the Office of Student Affairs), and in May 2012 it was renamed the Career Development and Placement Office.
As a Catholic university, the focus is on moral values and self-directed learning, and the office’s mission is to guide students in exploring possible career development paths. The office organizes various activities related to career development, setting up an array of learning channels so as to allow students to better understand their career options, in turn setting them up for success with regard to their career blueprints. The office aims to foster a mentality of lifelong learning in one’s career, distinguishing from the method of position-oriented career development guidance. The office crafts its career development guidance plan by taking into consideration the learning experiences of students in their four years of study here:
Through the Career & Vocational Helping System platform created by the school, students can explore possible career options throughout their four years at school. The platform divides this into four stages: exploring career options, development of abilities, transfer of knowledge, as well as career environment.
Understanding the requisite skills, developing multiple channels for learning, including industry-related talks, skills development workshops, industry visits, internships, special student representatives to industry, information about industry, and so forth.
Assisting students in switching from academia to industry, organizing industry exchanges, employment-related talks, workshops, and other learning channels.
